Weather & Climate

Maine's Kennebec Valley region is made up of Kennebec County to the south and Somerset County in the north, reaching to the Canadian border.

The region belongs to the third climate region of Maine called the Northern Interior. It is a division which occupies nearly 60% of the State's area and has a continental climate. It is furthest from the ocean and contains the highest elevations.

Maine has one of the most comfortable statewide summer climates in the continental United States. Peak temperatures, normally occurring in July, average about 70°F throughout the State. Winters are generally cold, but very prolonged cold spells are rare. Northern Interior weather stations may record as many as 40 to 60 days of sub-zero temperatures annually, perfect for snowmobiling and ice fishing. The annual precipitation in this region averages 40 inches, with an average annual snowfall of 90 to 110 with the majority of that occurring in January.
