The Kennebec Valley is home to a vast number of Maine’s farms. Rich alluvial soil along the Kennebec River make it an ideal area for farming with a history that stretches back over 10,000 years.
Every growing season provides a new way to enjoy our land. Maple Syrup, one of the region’s most enjoyed products, is celebrated each year with a day all to itself in March. Mid-summer visit one of many farms during Maine Open Farm Days. Take a scenic drive and discover quaint farms nestled into the countryside. Or join us in celebrating the harvest by sampling our farmers’ bounty at a weekly market or community harvest festival.
Plan your trip for fall and be sure to stop by a local orchard for apple picking, pumpkins, hayrides and cider. Balsam firs abound in winter, their fragrance filling the air. Bring home a wreath or the prefect tree. Or just bask in the summer shade and celebrate the sunny days before the harvest begins.
In any season here, you’ll find more than you expected, and you’ll always have a reason to explore.
